The Uyghurs, an Islamic people of ethnic Turkic origin, are one of China's oppressed peoples. Many are fleeing Chinese repression to nearby Afghanistan and Pakistan. The film tells the story of three men who, along with more than 20 other Uyghurs, found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. Considered Islamist militants by the US Army after the 9/11 attacks, they end up in Guantanamo. Without a fair trial, racked by fear and a sense of helplessness, they are kept imprisoned for several years. The story of this shocking injustice is revealed by the open testimony of the victims and the handful of people who tried to rescue them from their absurd captivity. (One World)
