From Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger and Terence Winter, Vinyl explores the drug-and sex-fuelled music business of the 1970's. A dizzying ride through America's music-business landscape at the dawn of punk, disco, and hip-hop, the story is seen through the eyes of Richie Finestra (Bobby Cannavale), a NYC record executive trying to revive his label and keep his personal life from spiralling out of control. Pilot (2016) (E01)

English Vinyl reminds me of Marty’s earlier work. Unfortunately reminding is where it stops. Because it’s a serial, it doesn’t carry any deeper message and all you can do is “just" get carried off by the perfect atmosphere of 1973 and enjoy great lines and drug escapes. Not that it’s too little, but I simply expected more. We’ll see what the coming episodes bring. Bobby Cannavale is excellent so far. ()

Yesterday Once More (2016) (E02)

English A bucket of refreshing water after the pilot. Two hours really is a lot for a pilot and the smaller dose suited me better. Although you can feel Marty’s departure in the absence of wise-cracks and the slower editing. But the dynamic sequences in the office are flawless and at last I began looking forward to the next episode. A mix of Mad Men and the good seasons of Californication. ()
