Plots(1)

There is some THING within us all. Penny Dreadful is a powerfully written saga filled with dark mystery and suspense. It lives in a demimonde - a half world between reality and the supernatural - where personal demons from the past can be stronger than vampires, evil spirits and immortal beasts. An erotically charged, profoundly unsettling new saga, Penny Dreadful completely reinvents literature's most iconic and terrifying characters. Dorian Gray, Victor Frankenstein and timeless figures from Dracula join a core of original characters in a dark and brutal quest to save a soul - even as they grapple with their own monstrous temptations. And They Were Enemies (2015) (S02E10)

English Hmm, okay, all's well that ends well. The creators managed to maintain a great, dark atmosphere until the end, there was a well-built tension, Eva Green impressed me again, and Dorian Gray started to appear as an interesting character to me for the first time. I was particularly pleased with the somewhat bleak ending that crowned the successful episode. ()

Season 3 (2016) (S03)

English The final season was the only one I didn't give five stars to. This was mainly due to the unconvincing episodes at the very end (7, 8, 9). They felt as if the creators had stopped focusing on the details, so the end of the season felt a bit rushed. It's a shame because the potential was there. The American scenes also seemed off to me because they just lacked that perfectly bleak London atmosphere. ()

The Day Tennyson Died (2016) (S03E01)

English The biggest advantage of the first episode of the third season was the decision of the creators to not only continue the storylines from the end of the previous season, but also to capture the mood that permeated this ending. In addition, the excellent atmosphere, quality pace, and interesting new plot twists were not missing once again. New, familiar characters continue to appear, and I was greatly amused by the "squatter" in Malcolm Murray's house. ()

Predators Far and Near (2016) (S03E02)

English Neither the second episode disappointed me, the plot was interesting enough once again, it didn't lose its pace and brought enough action. I'm just not sure if, with the shift of part of the story to the American continent, the gloomy atmosphere that I had already gotten used to in the series won't gradually disappear. I also realize now that the gore will be taken care of mainly by the duo of Dorian/Lily, which was a good choice, those two are good at it. ()

Good and Evil Braided Be (2016) (S03E03)

English This time, I was not as satisfied as with the previous episodes, I had the feeling that the storylines of Vanessa and the Monster were slowing down the pace of the story, the quality of the atmosphere decreased due to the American narrative part, and I originally wanted to rate the episode with four stars, but the emergence of the revolutionary cell in the center of London improved my mood, so I give it 5*. ()

A Blade of Grass (2016) (S03E04)

English Brutally good chamber episode, in which Eva Green once again showed her strength, but I must admit that Rory Kinnear definitely didn't fall behind. When the performances were accompanied by the desolate atmosphere, thick like winter smog over Silesia, there was nothing to question. ()

This World Is Our Hell (2016) (S03E05)

English It was not an uninteresting episode, the creators added more action and tension to it this time, visibly lightening it compared to the previous intense installment. I didn't have a problem with that, I deducted one star because the American storyline simply lacks the quality atmosphere that the rest of the story possesses. ()

No Beast So Fierce (2016) (S03E06)

English In the sixth episode, the creators worked on several storylines and they hit the spot for me. The feminist revolutionary cell in London underwent intense flourishing, I also enjoyed talking to Vanessa and Dr. Sweet, but I was most surprised by the events in America. The last dinner at the Talbot estate had a decent atmosphere, which I have been missing here so far. ()

Ebb Tide (2016) (S03E07)

English In the seventh episode, I eventually gave it four stars, although I also considered three. The episode had strong, but also weak moments. I had the impression that the London revolutionary cell somehow got out of control for the creators. The story of the Monster is still weak, but in the end, I was convinced to give it a better rating. ()

Perpetual Night (2016) (S03E08)

English With the plot, tension, atmosphere, and action, I was satisfied with the eighth episode and I saw it as a full blast, but what about that plague fog? It's practically impossible to breathe on the streets, people are dropping like flies (but only some), am I supposed to understand that Londoners had their houses hermetically sealed? That was very feeble. ()

The Blessed Dark (2016) (S03E09)

English The finale of the season and the entire series was a big disappointment for me. I don't necessarily need happy endings, so that wasn't the problem. I was more bothered by the fact that some moments lacked logic. Why didn't Dracula kill everyone when nobody, except for a small group of people, knows about him and vampires love anonymity (for understandable reasons)? Why was the beloved son buried in water and where was his mother at that moment? I also didn't like how the creators focused on boring details about the lives of individual characters the whole time and rushed through the ending. I would rate it similarly to Loki_Six, but I added a star for long-term satisfaction. ()
