Katie (in a no-holds-barred performance by Jemma Dallender) has dreams of becoming a model in New York City. Unfortunately, the photos that worked in her small mid-western town arent cutting it in the Big Apple. Broke, and in desperate need to update her book, Katie calls a number from a tear-off flyer offering free photos. But this innocent attempt to update her portfolio quickly turns into an unthinkable nightmare of rape, torture and kidnapping where shes ripped away from everyone and everything she knows. Surprisingly, it’s almost at the same level as the first part. Sure, it’s pointless, it repeats the trite rape revenge formula without bringing in anything new, etc. But what I demand from films (especially horror) is not so much originality or formal innovation, but an experience. If that works, I’m satisfied. And within the boundaries of the exploitation sub-genre, I Spit on your Grave works damn well, especially the first half, where I really sympathised with the protagonist. The second half is a bit weaker, but there was at least one scene that unsettled me a little. ISOYG2 also has some problematic moments (I immediately thought about the protagonist’s transport), but overall it’s an effective exploitation flick. 7/10
