Turning

This documentary depicts a 2006 performance of a collaborative project between musician Antony Hegarty and audiovisual artist Charles Atlas entitled Turning. The film draws audiences into unknown and exotic territory, combining innocence, desire, androgyny and metamorphosis to convey the inner richness, beauty and pain of transgenderedness. The ecstatically melancholy music of Antony & the Johnsons, combined with Atlas’s visuality and the personal confessions of thirteen participants has been declared by the French media as “the transgender manifesto”.
