Reformed French criminal Corey (Alain Delon, Le Samouraï) is dragged back into the seedy underworld after a chance encounter with escaped murderer Vogel (Gian Maria Volonté,A Fistful of Dollars). Joined by the mysterious Jansen (Yves Montand, Jean de Florette), a former policeman with a chequered past, they plot a complex jewellery heist involving a wealthy mob boss.
