The legend of Sawney Bean and his murderous family is savagely brought to life in this chilling modern take on the Scottish cannibal hunting and abducting victims. Half hixploitation, half detective movie that fails to work as a whole, as it lacks tension, fun and nastiness. Unremarkable carnage.

Lord of Darkness is a film that will have many detractors, but considering what the film aimed to achieve and how it tried to do it — presenting a legend from a multi-genre perspective — the result was quite successful. That's also because it's quite well made and it doesn't feel like a cheap film made at any cost. There's a bit of a lack of moments of real tension and truly intense situations, and sometimes the focus is on having an effect, but for me, I got relative satisfaction.
