FilmELEMENT was originally an accompanying video for a concert performance by avant-garde composer Edgar Varèse, whose compositions incorporate collages of recorded sounds into the music. Viola expanded upon this approach with a composition of images in which he creates original associations between the visual motifs and the musical impulses.
