When a carefree playboy (John Payne) joins the Marine Corps, he tests the skill and patience of the tough veteran sergeant (Randolph Scott) who tries to whip him into a real Marine. But, as his training proceeds, the recruit's cocky selfishness is replaced by selfless valor, and he eventually earns the love of a beautiful Navy nurse (Maureen O'Hara). A film that tries to blend something a bit war-related with a romance that's still enjoyable. It's like it's the precursor to the film Pearl Harbor, but with the difference that the romance here is nowhere near as intense. There are a few naval battles, but they are few, but still good. The romance is rather bland, so the film may drag on a bit. ()
