Patrick (Aidan Gillen) and Louise Daly (Eva Birthistle) have come to Wake Wood to take over the veterinary practice to recover from the tragic death of their daughter (Ella Connolly). Unable to have another child, the couple soon find hope when they discover the ritual. Patrick and Louise ask the villagers if they would bring their daughter back. The villagers agree to help but remind them that they can only have her back for three days and then she must return to the world of the dead. English Regardless of how you approach this film, it’s worth mentioning that, among the new works of the reanimated Hammer studios (Let Me In, The Resident, Wake Wood), this one is the most “hammerish” in terms of atmosphere, theme and execution. The performances are wooden, the script is unconvincing (when the two protagonists learn about the “pagan ritual” they believe it way too easily; when a character is ambushed by the “Grim Reaper”, they don’t try to escape), the gore is amateurish and the film as a whole looks as if it had been shot a “few” years ago. But I’m really not sure if that bothers me or, on the contrary, if I liked it in some way. Cautious thumbs up, but this certainly is not horror for everyone. ()
