After making six "Francis the Talking Mule comedies," the team of Donald O'Connor, Chill Wills (Francis' voice), and director Arthur Lubin left the series, leaving Mickey Rooney to take over the role of the none-too-smart pal of the vocal jackass (spoken for here by Paul Frees). In this installment, Francis rescues the hapless David Prescott (Rooney) from a haunted house, where he is trapped with a group of crooks who are trying to replace genuine works of art with forgeries. This new team didn't seem to have the popularity of the earlier "Francis" veterans, and this was the last of the series. (official distributor synopsis)
