Plots(1)

After his latest “serious” film is met with gales of laughter, Able decides to drown his sorrows at a local strip club – where he meets dancer, Gigi Spot. Minutes later, he’s convinced the honey dripping sexpot to star in his next project. Minutes after that, he’s killed her in a drunk driving accident. Needing to dispose of the body, Able stumbles upon the one place nobody would notice a corpse... spread around the set of his new horror film.  When the response to this new footage is praised for its realism, the guilt ridden Able has a complete mental breakdown. Believing he has finally discovered the key to making a great horror film, the director quickly discovers that one human body doesn't yield a lot of parts, and if he wants to finish, he's going to have to keep on killing. Meanwhile, Gigi’s sister April (Sasha Grey) hires the city’s most celebrated private detective, Isaac, to investigate Gigi’s disappearance. But when the simple missing person investigation turns into a string of stomach turning murders, Isaac realizes he’s found the case of a lifetime. With Beaumonde hot on his heels, his sanity unspooling and his collaborators dropping like flies, will Able have the time, focus and resources to complete his magnum opus, or will he simply fade to black? English The only comment I had to explain the Boo! rating was a joke about my brain cells wanting to commit suicide while I watched Smash Cut, but now that I see the relatively positive reviews, I have to say something else. Sometimes I notice that when a new piece of shit (pardon my French) features a famous actor from old cult or forgotten horror films, the fans jump up in joy because it’s a “great homage”, a “B-movie like from the 80s”, “maximum guilty pleasure”, etc. But the reason most of those films are bullshit is that, well, they are bullshit, and the people involved don’t have and never had any talent, and if they ever had any, they lost it. Making this type of retro-crap makes no sense, they made plenty of it in the past already, and “paying homage” doesn’t have to mean (and does not mean) copying everything from the original, including its cheapness, trashiness and silliness. English A comedy/horror mingle-mangle which desperately tries to be funny (and fails at it). There’s no way this can be called a horror film. I consider Sasha Gray to be a very talented porn actress (with emphasis on the word porn). In this "masterpiece" she was convincing only in scenes where she was wiping some sludge off her face. By that I mean that I'll gladly see her in a film where she can show off her amazing absence of a gag reflex, but she should avoid regular acting just like Lee Demarbre and Ian Driscoll should steer clear of filmmaking. English Herschell Gordon Lewis actually appears in the film, so it is clear at first glance who the film is for. But I think even Herschell's fans won't appreciate that there's someone here who's copying him and not adding anything extra to the film. It's a shame that with fairly interesting horror actors from the past, they didn't manage to create something that could truly be a tribute to old trash horror films. ()
