Plots(1)

Based on Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's phenomenally successful comic book creation, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles takes the dynamic characters off the page and throws them onto the screen for their very first live-action origin adventure. A puddle of radio-active waste transforms four innocent turtles into anthropomorphic teens. Challenged to put their angst aside, Raphael, Leonardo, Michaelangelo and Donatello seek the expert guidance of wise Master Splinter and aspire to become New York City's greatest mutant crime fighters. Befriended by the feisty April O'Neil (Judith Hoag) and kickass Casey Jones (Elias Koteas), they are pitted against the evil Shredder, where fists will fly, shuriken will spin and nun chucks will whir! English A guilty pleasure of one generation; this time in animated form, but it is incredible to remember today what a huge event the movie version was at the time. Today it remains just a decidedly “wtf" picture with cult, unintentionally ridiculous choreography of the action scenes where the actors couldn’t move much inside their costumes and so just wave their arms and legs about and their opponents try to collide with their kicks and punches. And not always successfully, because in their costumes they couldn’t see a thing either. This is still entertaining almost a quarter of a century after it was filmed. ()

English The adaptation, which could not have turned out well, turned out really badly. I give it a second star for the fact that when I was ten years old, I eagerly watched the screen and was grateful that someone had brought my childhood darlings to the big screen. However, even back then, something was gnawing at me that it just wasn't right, the turtles were too artificial and Shredder just looked tough. Once acceptable, now embarrassing. ()
