When The Jazz Singer was released in theatres, the future of Hollywood changed. For the first time in a feature film, an actor spoke on screen, stunning audiences and leaving the silent era behind. Al Jolson was the history-making actor, playing the son of a Jewish cantor who must defy his rabbi father in order to pursue his dream of being in show business. Now remastered and restored for hi-def, the whole story can be seen (and heard) here. It is more than just history it is pure entertainment! (Warner Bros. AU)

This is a film that simply must be evaluated in terms of being a milestone in the sense that it is the first sound film. However, it is still a silent film, where only the singing passages are truly sound. The film forever changed cinematography, but it remained just an average work, which does not excel in acting, story, and eventually not even much in music. ()
