The theme of the original haunted fantasy used in a contemporary haunted house horror-movie template. Unfortunately, it is used in a lazy, unoriginal way where the volume of the sound is more important than the innovation of story clichés. The production quality is good, but the character of the exorcist required a bigger (and more expensive) actor than Jared Harris. The way to “the other side” to save someone was done better in Insidious, without the need for a load of digital effects. ()
I never liked the original film and the remake shows me once again how unnecessary remakes are. This film brings absolutely nothing new to the table except more fancy special effects. But remaking the entire film just for that seems like a very weak reason to me. I wasn't having fun, I wasn't scared, but I was bored. An annoying movie I don't want to see again. ()
