English James Cagney in another great role, showing that he could easily play a completely normal character, but circumstances dictate otherwise, and he must step into the role of a thug, whom you end up rooting for, and eventually, you'll have to endure his fate alongside him. It's a shame that it's not a bit more interesting in terms of the screenplay, and likewise, there's a lack of strong female performances, but Cagney and eventually Bogart make up for it. ()
