Operation Sunrise

A solid and balanced documentary about a very interesting intelligence operation at the end of World War II, with implications extending into the Cold War period. The work with sources and living witnesses is of high quality, though the use of archival material is somewhat weaker. The depiction of the subsequent fates of the main protagonists of this operation is fascinating, especially that of General Wolf, one of the highest-ranking SS officials, who lived in absolute luxury in post-war Germany for 12 years, simply to avoid being able to testify against the current powers in any potential trial. Politics essentially functions the same way... Overall impression: 80%. (07/08/2007)
