English Guy de Maupassant was a master at describing the twisted characters of French (petty) bourgeois, and he usually managed it in a concise story spanning just a few pages. The creators of this TV play took a broad approach, delving deeply into psychology, thus stretching a story that could have been told in about 45 minutes into a full-length movie. Additionally, they made the unfortunate choice of casting well-known Czech actors whose voices were dubbed over. The Slovak acting scene has and continues to have a number of quality actors who could easily handle such roles, and if the director really wanted Rudolf Hrušínský and Dana Medřická on the team, they should have let them speak for themselves. Slovak actors have been doing the same thing in Czech films and series for years. On the other hand, the characters of the minor officials are accurately and interestingly portrayed. I certainly wouldn't want someone like Anton Mrvečka as a colleague. Overall impression: 55%. ()
