Šarūnas Bartas’s documentary In Memory of a Day Gone By is one of the first works by the “break generation” of Lithuanian filmmakers who debuted in the 1990s. Marginalized members of society and people with disabilities, unseen in earlier documentaries, came to be principle characters in the new generation’s works, while settings shifted from romanticized countrysides to soiled cities.
