Radnóti Szüts Gábor, an ex-lord-lieutenant, now a widower lives a secluded life in his mansion. The commander in the house is Aunt Lili, a relative, whose main concern is to marry off the elder girl, the beautiful Mara. The baron Margittay Balázs, bailiff secretary is courting her, when Kornélia arrives, expelled from a Budapest boarding school. Mara meets the neighbouring landowner, Simaházi in the family crypt, by her aunt's grave. Katalin left him for an Italian painter and later she committed suicide. After misunderstandings, jealousy and a duel the past is settled. Tamás marries Mara and Balázs marries Kornélia. (official distributor synopsis)
