Chevy Chase as a newspaper reporter who changes his identity more often than his underwear. While working on a drug expose, he stumbles onto a scam that gets him up to his by-line in murder, police corruption and forbidden romance. For this ace newsman, it'll be the story of the year, if he can only stay alive till the deadline. (Shock Entertainment)

Decent, classically constructed solid genre plot versus Chase, making escapades with grin from ear to ear and silly humor in every single scene. In addition, a moronic voiceover and a truly guilty pleasure 80's soundtrack. In the original, I assume journalist / detective Fletch is conceived as a charming cynic who will not take a step without a dry one-liner. Here he is conceived as an asshole. Not that the contrast between serious genre and grotesque humor could not work, it could, and especially with Chase, but here it doesn´t work smoothly, it never gets it right and it all give the impression of a pilot of a second-rate 80's series more than anything else.
