James Stewart and Dean Martin star as outlaws in Bandolero. The film begins as Dee Bishop and his gang are about to be hanged. The Scripture-spouting executioner turns out to be Dees brother Mace, who helps the desperadoes escape. They are pursued by a sheriff, whose lady friend is infatuated with Dee. The brothers try to go straight, but before they can make up their mind they find themselves surrounded by Mexican bandidos and are forced to team up with the sheriff to fight them off. English Western from the period of declining interest of the audience in this genre, when the production of classic westerns shifted to Europe and the phenomenon of so-called spaghetti westerns emerged. In the USA, significantly fewer films were made than a decade earlier, on the other hand, they no longer had such a stereotypical character and there were noticeable attempts at innovation and new perspectives on the phenomenon of the "wild west". Bandolero has a traditional form, but the characters are more complex, not black and white. Another positive aspect are the decent acting performances. The overall impression is 50%, genre enthusiasts can confidently add another 10-20%. ()
