Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

Trailer

Plots(1)

His name is Powers, Austin Powers (Mike Myers). And when he's not saving the world from the clutches of evil, he's doing what ever over sexed, under satisfied spy does, shag. And yeah baby, can he shag. But not for much longer. The wicked Dr. Evil has gone back in time and stolen Austin's Mojo, his libido, and Austin is feeling well, rather limp. So with the help of CIA Agent, Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham) - (Shagwell by name, shag very well my nature). Austin's taking a trip back to the 60's to reclaim his manly bits. Sure he'll be up against some, uh um, stiff competition, but this totally shagadelic swinger plans to put Dr. Evil away for good and get back on top, where he likes it. (Roadshow Entertainment)

English This is only film in the franchise that I have seen, and I don’t want to see the others. It’s a comedy full of jokes at which I barely laughed twice, and even then only “consolingly”, so that at least something drowned out the infantile spasms of everything around. Rowan Atkinson plays an idiot, but he’s funny with every gesture, facial expression and tone of voice. Adam Sandler plays an idiot and he’s funny through that admitted awkwardness that comes with knowing he’s not that funny. But Mike Myers and his jokes are NOT funny. They only make the viewer wonder, “what the hell was that supposed to be?” Even the would-be parodic references to well-known movies exist only for their own sake with no connection to anything in the film. English Dr Evil and his mini-me are not very good, they are actually more awkward than funny. Austin Powers isn’t very funny, either, but those beautiful babes around him are worth it. There are a couple of funny scenes, the expletive gags are surprisingly tolerable, I even laughed at one of them. Rather than a comedy, it's one big ball of crazy. I like crazy movies, so I survived Austin unscathed, but those three stars are probably too much. ()

English Uncontrollable burst of sketches that cannot be defended against. It requires calm, good mood, original delivery, and it can only end with either love or hate. Whenever Dr. Evil appears, I am not far from tears of laughter and I realize that I will probably occasionally quote this overblown madness until the end of my life. The fat scoundrel is a misstep that prevents the highest rating, but the explosive Myers and the hot Heather Graham save everything else. ()

English The second Austin Powers film is much lamer than the first one. That's not to say I didn't have fun, but it wouldn’t kill the filmmakers to show more effort and not just blatantly try to cash in on the success of the first film. ()

English But yeah, it's sometimes so stupid that you simply can't criticize it much. There are great jokes here and Mike Myers ultimately suits me incredibly well with his sense of humor. But without Heather Graham, it would simply be a half-baked film. It's incredible how beautiful that woman is to look at. And she also has a sense of humor, which is good. ()
