Canton Godfather is a lavish martial-arts comic melodrama set in the 1930's. One of the most expensive Hong Kong movies ever made, it took nine months to shoot and cost $HK 64,000,000 to make.The subtle, Scorsese-inspired tracking shots, elegant montages, and innovative action sequences, indicate the level of care and attention that Jackie put into this labour of love, inspired by 'Pocketful of Miracles'.Even today, the movie rates as one of the most technically proficient projects ever produced by a Hong Kong studio.
