Ultima Thule

Thirty-year-old Bartek decides to leave Poland for the north of Scotland after his father's death. On the island of Foula, he seeks peace and a way to balance his life. He finds work on a small farm where he helps with the sheep and gets to know the local community. The nature of the small island, with its desolate plains, cliffs and omnipresent sea waves, plays an important role in the reconstruction of his inner world full of doubts. The director was inspired by the works of the German Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840), who often painted vagabonds amidst mountains shrouded in mist. The title Ultima thule referred to the boundaries of the known world in ancient cartography and is now the northernmost part of Greenland. (Art Film Fest)
