November, 1956. Colonel Takács arrives in the mining town in order to help maintain order. He meets his old friend, Pallós. The deceived party-secretary is now the president of the local workers' council. He and his companion, Müller, call for a strike. Only Réti János and his team go down to the mine to work. Pallós and his friends want to prevent this. They fight. The lights go out. Pallós is brought up dead. Everybody suspects Réti. Müller organises a memorial demonstration but gets killed by someone in the turmoil. Takács throws light upon the case. The murderer was the Fascist Gellei, pretending to be engineer Galetta, and Müller was a member of his troop. Takács returns to Budapest, and work in the mine starts again.
