English This film can only be loosely compared to Braveheart. The setting is the same, as is the choice of native music, but the rest is quite different, and significantly so. While Mel Gibson's film is a romantic ballad in the first half and a war inferno in the second, Rob Roy is fairly well-balanced and even in non-combat scenes, it maintains a rather raw and authentic face. The actors are excellent, and there are several very powerful scenes, and although there aren’t as many action sequences and as much blood as in Braveheart, every fan of historical films will be satisfied. The plot occasionally lacks a bit of dynamism and some passages are perhaps not so interesting, but that is just a minor flaw. ()
