The cultural film On the Island of Cormorants, along with Hlavátky, is one of the last films made by documentary filmmaker Pál Bielik for the company Nástup. It is a promising documentary that clearly showcases Bielik's directorial traits: a sense of boyhood values, storytelling, self-irony, and the ability to capture the photogenic qualities of natural environments. The film depicts the adventurous expedition of the filmmakers to the bottomland forest below Bratislava. And it is in a sense double-coded, because it captures the fauna of the Danube basin and the filmmakers' "game" with equal interest. At one point we see Bielik himself in a boat. (Art Film Fest)
