Plots(1)

A hard working bus driver who must stand up to the local mob boss if he is to keep his son from falling into a life of crime. The streets of the Bronx are a tough place for a kid to grow up. You learn fast or lose everything. Lorenzo's son, Calogero learns about the virtues of hard, honest work from his father who owns nothing but his integrity. He also learns about easy money and life on the streets from the man who owns them, a mobster called Sonny (Chazz Palminteri). Now Calogero must choose between earning respect like his father, or commanding it like Sonny. Always one step away from a broken bottle, a pistol whipping or a shotgun blast, one young man, torn between two worlds just a city block apart, is about to learn that the streets run two ways. For every cent of easy money, there's a tough, and sometimes deadly lesson to be learned. (Umbrella Entertainment)

English I like the way De Niro doesn’t rush anywhere in the narrative and takes his time with the characters and their motivations so that he can deliver even harder blows in the nicely pumped-up ending. Though he plays the somewhat hackneyed character of an always even-keeled father, he avoids preaching as a director. You can’t avoid some decisions. A Bronx Tale takes an equally ambiguous approach to some of the less appealing aspects of American history. In one of the film’s most critical scenes, the America of the 1960s is harshly confronted with the good old America of urbane Italian mobsters. This is how respect is established and polarities of opinion are put to rest. There is nothing to spoil the pleasant impression of a job well done in terms of the film’s craftsmanship, but there is also no thrilling moment, truly strong idea or unforgettable acting performance. Despite that, A Bronx Tale is an outstanding directorial debut. 80% ()

English A more straightforward, simpler and brisker film than its more famous gangster relative, but I didn’t mind, quite the opposite. I was not unnecessarily distracted by a million important secondary characters and the story focusing solely on the main trio managed to hold my attention, which in gangster films tends to get lost. Anyway, I will never find love for this genre. 8/10 ()

English Robert De Niro's directorial debut is as unpolished as it might seem according to the first assumptions. It has a well-constructed plot and traditionally excellent performances underpinned by an interesting topic. ()

English Hats off to De Niro, such a directorial debut would be the envy of many. A sober and engaging mafia film that doesn't just try to empty as many clips as possible, but beautifully guides us through an uneasy coming of age tale in an era of racial tension and mob bosses. While almost nothing extraordinary or suspenseful happens, the film is so beautifully and fluidly shot that you'll enjoy it. De Niro plays his role with as much gusto as ever, and he’s also well supported by Chazz Palminteri, who’s perfect for the role of a gangster with his cool expression. I don't think A Bronx Tale should be in the top 200, but as an insight into a complex time and culture it's perfect. ()

English Incredible surprise because I didn't expect much from the movie, and I actually hadn't heard much about it, but Robert De Niro delivers an excellent performance as both an actor and a director, and it is crowned by other outstanding acting performances and a captivating story. This is a classic drama executed excellently, and it's definitely worth seeing. ()
