Just outside of Hasenbergl, the area, which is often described as the city’s ghetto, one Munich ends, and another begins. Here people of many different nationalities live together on very little space: Greeks, Turks, Kosovo-Albanians, Sinti and Germans. A combination, which can be explosive – especially in the schools. At the Social Centre Munich North, 60 percent of elementary school pupils need help. They suffer from learning-disabilities or abuse, are prone to violence or simply cannot speak the German language. Susanne Korbmacher-Schulz, a teacher at the centre, offers a glimpse of light in the darkness of many of these children’s fates. She has initiated a plan, that lets kids trade their services for dancing, music, computer or self-defence courses. A highlight in the Munich Bronx. (DOK.fest München)
